One registration covers both the Basic and Advanced classes. Participants may take either or both as needed. Please note that only the Basic Chaplain Class fulfills the state certification requirement.
Basic Fire Chaplain Class: This 2-day course introduces fire chaplains to ministry within the fire service. Topics include the roles and responsibilities of fire chaplains, how to minister to firefighters and fire victims, critical incident stress, fire department funerals, and basic fire chaplain operations. Successful completion partially fulfills the training requirements to become a certified chaplain through the Kentucky Fire Commission. Also serves as an excellent annual refresher for certified chaplains.
Advanced Chaplain Class — Funeral Preparation & Pastoral Care of the Grieving: This advanced course expands on the Basic curriculum and equips chaplains with tools to assist with death notifications, plan funerals for both Line-of-Duty Deaths (LODD) and non-LODD situations, interact with grieving families, and prepare, craft, and deliver a funeral message. Note: This class does NOT fulfill any state fire chaplain certification requirements.
